Shop Class 2.0: What, How, and Why? (Costa Mesa)

California schools have mostly given shop class the axe. Why does that matter? And does it make sense to push for reintroducing it, but this time based on "maker" technologies like 3D printing, Arduino, and wearable tech?  Join alumnus Joan Horvath for a dialog about what Shop Class 2.0 should be and how you can get involved.  Event hosted in Costa Mesa by Urban Workshop.

Agenda:

6:30 - 7:00 Meet & Greet

7:00 - 7:30 Thought-provoking presentation

7:30 - 8:00 Open dialogue and discussion

8:00 onwards - Further dialogue and optional tour of Urban Workshop

Speaker Bios:

Joan Horvath '81 and Rich “Whosawhatsis” Cameron are the co-founders of maker technology consultancy Nonscriptum LLC. Besides being an MIT alum, Joan is a recovering rocket scientist and educator, and Rich is an open-source 3D printer hacker who designed the RepRap Wallace and Bukito printers.
